Ask HN: Next Steps to Go in Career,Breadth, Depth or Mgr?
As a software developer with several years of experience in the industry, I am looking to advance my career, and I am unsure of which direction to take. Talked with my manager, he proposed two different types of tech leader within the org, one is breadth and the other is depth.
Personally, I feel like I prefer trying different emerging techs and compose them together solve the problems. I am ok with people manangement , but I can't say I am really a big fan of it.
should I focus on deepening my technical skills in a specific area, broadening my skill set by working in multiple areas, or transition into management?
Have you pursued a similar path, and if so, what was the outcome? What factors did you consider when making your decision?
