Ask HN: Are there good certificates for Developers?

2 points by InsOp 3 years ago · 1 comment · 1 min read

I once was a working student of a cybersecurity company. they required for each new hire to complete the famous OSCP certificate within 3 months.

they did that in order to make sure that their new hire is up for the task and probably because they can sell their services better to their clients.

Now I run a WebDev agency of my own with partly frontend-devs, backend-devs, fullstack-devs and DevOps guys - There are known cloud-native-foundation certificates for DevOps guys as well as certificates for the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, etc), but I didnt find any good ones for lets say react or nodejs devs.

Since I want my employees to have a good coding standard/knowledge I thought of having such certificates for them as well, but I am still unsure whether its a good idea or rather a waste of time.

are they well received in the western world (We are from germany)?

does my favorite community has some thoughts on that topic?

As an Architect and Dev Manager of a small company, I don't look at certificates at all. They seem to be about memorization and regurgitation. Maybe others feel differently but that's my take.
