A local store had this on display for Christmas. Nine yo me gazed upon the dazzling graphics and smooth animations. It was almost as watching a cartoon. This was the exact moment in time I knew that all I wanted was my own Commodore 64 so that I too could create such beautiful stuff.

Fast-forward 40 years and I am still making demos for the greatest home computer ever built <3

Who would have ever thought in 1982 that something like this was possible on the C64?!

We all stand in the shoulders of others.

Forty years ago, this was my state of computing.

This reminded me of typing in a program to play a reggae version of "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" from Family Computing. It was not the coolest magazine, but it was what my school library subscribed to. A search reveals it appeared in the December 1985 issue!

I remember as a kid with these graphics, thinking that there would be no way a computer could ever replicate full motion video like on tv. Crazy to see how things worked out and how wrong I was.

>Only $595!

Which is $1,835 in current dollars. How long did it take for the Commodore 64 to drop to $99? It's amazing how rapidly computers advanced during that era and how quickly the prices declined, at least until the RAM crisis.
