Financial/Business/Economy book for teenager
My 13 year old son is showing interest in business and was looking for resources to educate him on how money/financing works, how the economy works, how do markets etc work. Shooting for a breadth first approach and then if he is still interested he can go deeper into the specific topics.
Any recommendations? He already listens to Planet money and really likes it but has a lot of follow up questions. 13+ ? What about DK? Some series may be suitable for that age. A lot of graphics! https://www.dk.com/us/book/9780756698270-the-economics-book/ https://www.dk.com/us/book/9781465415851-the-business-book/ https://www.dk.com/us/book/9780241407783-how-management-work... https://www.dk.com/us/book/9781465444271-how-money-works/ ---Others advertised for Age 8-12 https://www.dk.com/us/book/9780756663285-dk-eyewitness-books... https://www.dk.com/us/book/9781465451798-dk-eyewitness-books... Thank you. A lot of good options here. Any specific order that you would recommend? Not really. They are more like collections of reference articles and graphics to flip through and maybe someday read, but in no particular order. And I'm talking between books too, not just within them: does economics come before biz ? IMO No. They are more like parallel than serial. Don’t know if he’ll think it’s too childish, but I continually recommend The Accounting Game: Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand for a simple but thorough introduction to basic accounting concepts. Good video overview: https://youtu.be/oNw4guzrzG4 Also, not sure if there is a book on this, but: I learned a lot about markets, auctions, supply and demand, etc. by playing EverQuest while growing up. Other MMOs have similar economic dynamics, I imagine. When I was in highschool I picked up stocks for dummies. It was a very good read and really educated me. Bogleheads guide to investing was also very educational (but a bit dry). Basic Economics is great, but dense. Planet money is an awesome podcast! https://www.liberalstudies.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Eco... "Economics in One Lesson", Henry Hazlitt Thank you. Looks interesting. Will share it with him.
