Ask HN: How do you re-distribute your screen time post-Twitter?

2 points by marginalien 3 years ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

As I‘m currently moving away from Twitter, I gain back a lot of screen time that I want to re-distribute wisely.

HN sets the gold standard, and I‘m looking for similar places that gratify one‘s intellectual curiosity.

So, how do you re-distribute your screen time post Twitter?

I've tried getting offline altogether. So, reading a long-form book -- or at least trying to read a daily newspaper cover to cover. Taking a walk around the block...

If you really want to upgrade your online content, try spending time on a major news site like BBC.com or NYtimes.com.

Also, there's some pretty thoughtful pieces in the blog at aldaily.com

Just click links, on Twitter or otherwise, and explore the open web. Read blogs, subscribe to newsletters, download ebooks.

    Any specific recommendations?

For instance, Tim Urban‘s Wait But Why blog and the Lex Friedman podcast go into the direction I am looking for.

I wonder if there is any „hub“, social network or community similar to HN that one should be aware of.

I'm a fraid I have more niche tech interests, so I'm unable to advise on sources similar to the ones you indicated. However, an effective discovery tool I ordinarily use is to browse the archives of the blogs of interesting stories shared here on HN.
