THC can transfer to milk when hemp is fed to dairy cows

THC is fat-soluble. One common method of extracting THC for use in edibles is to immerse the marijuana in melted butter and then use the THC-infused butter to cook/prepare the edibles. I discovered this when I had bad complications after gallbladder removal - my pancreas got infected & necrotic. Eating too much fat would cause an acute attack of pancreatitis. For comparison, people who have had pancreatitis, kidney stones and given birth vaginally report that pancreatitis is the worst of the 3. By trial and error (namely repeated hospitalizations), I discovered that the maximum amount of fat I could tolerate at a meal was 7 grams of fat. This is about 1 pat of butter. Or half of a White Castle slider. Then, 12 hours later, I could safely eat the other half of the slider. I had gotten a medical marijuana card in Colorado by that time.

Milk contains fat, therefore the fat content of milk will be absorbing and extracting THC that enters the bloodstream of the cow.

For treatment of chronic pain after that surgery-gone-wrong, I have to get my pain meds from a pain clinic. At least 3 times per year, I have to take a urinalysis drug-screen to ensure that:

0. I'm taking my meds and not selling them, and

1. I'm not taking other drugs like THC, meth (my state's #1 illegal drug of choice!) or whatever is popular these days.

Anti-nausea meds like Zofran & Reglan metabolize into something that standard drug screens think is THC. I almost got kicked from the program because of this.

I bet that if I walked past a drug-sniffing police-dog that it would have either a seizure or an orgasm.

I can't wait for California dispensaries to start selling wagyu edibles.

I don’t know why weed attracts Reddit-tier jokes.

  • JasonFruit 3 years ago

You have apparently not been around stoners much. Thinking you're cleverer than you are seems to be a common side effect of marijuana use, and far from my favorite characteristic of people who do so.

This was my thought exactly. Scrolling through this post seems like I'm on Reddit. It was a paper from Nature so worthy of conversation, but the one-liners are unnecessary and don't add anything of substance to the dialog.

Do you really not know why weed attracts Reddit tier jokes? Or is this post an ultra meta Reddit joke

Not quite sure why HN comments hate fun

    • ratg13 3 years ago

We love fun when it’s providing context to the conversation.

People writing so they can hear themselves talk is less enjoyable.

I love fun comments, since it brings relevant conversations.

THC will be metabolized / broken down in the process, and the cannabinoids showing up in the milk and fats in the meat will be much further down the chain.

But as the title "Transfer of cannabinoids into the milk of dairy cows fed with industrial hemp could lead to Δ9-THC exposure that exceeds acute reference dose" suggests, they show that it's not only metabolites in the milk.

Anecdote:

Many moons ago in college, our neighbors kept a chicken coop and had roughly 10 chickens. Chickens are opportunistic feeders, and will eat nearly anything. Many people, mostly students, in our neighborhood smoked a fair amount of pot, and everyone would save their stems and regularly feed them to the chickens. We would routinely harvest their eggs, and more than once did we have (non smokers) who also harvested the eggs complain that they'd get headaches or feel drowsy after eating said eggs. Fascinating.

I've never seen such a clear case of BOTH a problem and an opportunity.

THC milkshakes. THC cheese. THC Ice cream...

I can see the revamped advertising for "Strawberry Quik" already in my mind's eye.

This may change Saturday morning cartoons and ads forever.

"This milk tastes like the cow got into a cannabis patch."

"That's correct."

"Yesssssssss..."

rapjr9 3 years ago

So what else is getting into milk that we don't know about yet? Pokeweed? Datura? Have people been randomly getting their consciousness altered by milk for centuries? That could explain a lot of history...
