The article says 2,000 but your point stands that it's a relatively small percentage of the workforce.
However, it's also a large number of people to be put out of jobs before the holidays.
This explains why the stock price went up by almost 5% today.
Of course, judging by their PE ratio of around 150 - it's still being treated like a growth stock.
