+1 for "environment matters". Ansel Adams has a little section in his book The Print where talks about how the environment matters for prints and how one of his best shows was at

where the color of walls was a bit darker than most galleries. I've frequently observed that prints that look good in one location don't look good in another. For prints it is worse than screens because it is not just the color of the surroundings but also the illuminant that varies. I've been thinking about how to adapt a print to an environment but haven't quite succeeded at it yet.
