Help infuriating “sign in with Google” popup
Sorry if this is tech support and not allowed.. feel free to flag.
I do not have a google account and don't use any google services to the best of my knowledge and ability. (Fastmail, DDG, apple maps, etc.)
How do I stop the "sign in with google account" that is now popping up on most sites I visit? Yelp, newspaper, reddit, travel websites, retail websites, etc.
It's possible I had a google account at some point in my life but certainly not any time recently/while using this IP address (to the best of my recollection).
Everything I read online says to stop the banner I have to log into my google account to change the preference. I'm about to lose my mind. Please help. So it seems like there’s nothing I can do about this and have to live the rest of my internet life with this pop up everywhere I look. Thanks, Google, for making the internet a worse place for me. What browser are you using? I've seen it too. At first I thought it was a new Firefox feature but I've seen it on fennec and the desktop Firefox. I'm thinking its a back end integration with specific sites. Hopefully its not Firefox. Safari I miss Firefox and prefer it. Something happened to it one day and now I'm unable to use/reinstall Firefox on my computer (see comment history. Could use help with that too...) Well, ive seen it across three operating systems (Linux, windows, android). So if you've seen it too on Mac/safari, its safe to say its probably a site specific integration. Hopefully unlock origin adds a blocker for it (though definitely not guaranteed as its not technically an ad). In the meantime, might be worth adding a specific block for the pop up element in UBO. Though not sure if the latest safari has UBO support so I don't think that helps you. I don't think I can get Ublock Origin for my version of Safari (running a 2015 laptop and it stopped being able to update about 1-2 years ago). Edit: looks like they don't make UBO for Safari? So is this my internet life now? If I have to close this popup on pretty much every site I visit I'm definitely going to pull a Ron Swanson throwing the computer in the dumpster scene. if it were me, and i didnt have access to ublock, id try adding the following to the /etc/hosts file: 127.0.0.1 id.google.com 127.0.0.1 accounts.google.com pretty sure that popup is being served from those domains, that might break other things elsewhere, but might be worth a shot just to see what happens Thank you for the tip. I don't understand what etc/host file is or how to add. I'm not tech oriented. Please clarify, I'm willing to try anything at this point.
