The body is an economy. What gets spent on immune wars vs covid can't be spent on DNA maintenance and repair, full collagen replacement, etc, etc. So even aside from the profound damage done by a serious viral infection (as so many of our cells kill themselves to limit the infection) there will be increased mortality from many other causes.
