Bitcoin NFTs (Ordinal Theory)
rodarmor.comCasey Rodarmor has been working on a numbering scheme for satoshis that allows tracking and transferring individual sats. These numbers are called ordinals. Satoshis are numbered in the order in which they're mined, and transferred from transaction inputs to transaction outputs in first-in-first-out order.
Ordinals don't require a separate token, another blockchain, or any changes to Bitcoin. They work right now.
I can't understand this. Is this just putting "serial numbers" on sats? Like the ordinal part can't be relevant at all to an application its pure convention. Any permutation of the numbers would provide the same identity, but ordinal is computable and specifiable.
So having the "first" block and paying more for it is just as stupid as paying for a dollar with a particular serial number. Its only a market for sats in the sense of a group of speculators imagining an indistinguishable permutation has value over another. So the 8008135 sat is "more valuable" because of its assignment to an arbitrary string?
Like the value is the creation of distinguishability through convention?
