Ask HN: What Happened to Keybase.io?
They got bought by Zoom in May 2020 and have seemingly not updated anything since.
Is this just a dead product, an acquihire? This previous discussion is extremely relevant https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28814210 I really like Keybase, I'm glad it's not been shut down yet but I'm not sure how it can continue existing like this for long. Just one example of the continuing use of Keybase: the Chia Network uses Keybase Chat as its sole official communication tool for its community. More than 20,000 members and hundreds of messages per day. Why Keybase and not Telegram? Because identities can not be faked on Keybase. Private messaging on Telegram (and on Discord) is full of scams because of faked identities. Honestly the only person that ever messaged me on Keybase was Keybase shilling some guffcoin. Didn't even know Zoom had bought them. > Didn't even know Zoom had bought them. Same here, this is kind of surprising. Im still using & love their end to end encrypted git but im worried it might disappear at some point. There doesnt seem to be any alternatives. I am also a fan of their encrypted git. If you or anyone else has any easy to use recommendations please let us know. I also love their encrypted git, teams, and file system. I think it’s a fantastic service. This interview with Software Engineering Daily gave me a lot of insight into the company. The codebase is still maintained. I adore the project. Zoom buying them was tragic considering zoom is one of the worst apps I have to use and Keybase is one of the best. I’m really glad they haven’t killed it yet! I still use it daily, but from all external views my account would look inactive.
