Reading a Profit and Loss Statement
lethain.comNice writeup. Understanding financials is a great skill to have.
For completeness, the author should follow up with articles dedicated to reading Balance Sheet and also Cashflow statement.
Can't help but chuckle at this headline at the top of HN, right when a decade of free money is about to end. Back to fundamentals over growth and engagement?
This is an interesting example showing how P&L evolve from a company's IPO to their annual report. As a shameless plug and as an alternative to the author's suggestions of using EDGAR search or individual company IR sites, you can use https://last10k.com/sec-filings/hcp to read Hashicorp's S-1 and 10-K more efficiently using our online tools.
It sounds like you’re affiliated with last10k.com? If so, I have a little feedback: on my iPhone 13 pro approximately half of the screen is taken up by not-the-content, leaving only a small reading area.
I recommend making the giant last10k.com logo much smaller (perhaps 50% the current height or less) and having the blue title header (“Hashicorp, Inc. (HCP) SEC Filing 10-K Annual Report for the fiscal year ending Monday, January 31, 2022 “ etc…) collapse or scroll away when the user scrolls (also just make it smaller).
Yes, and thank you for this feedback. We recently migrated the filing pages from Bootstrap 3 to Bootstrap 5 and are still adjusting the mobile experience but their is a full-screen option to alleviate this. The page uses their navbar scrolling[1] which works well on desktop but it doesn't have a responsive variation[2] so it makes the blue title header non-scrollable.

Equally important in a not for profit.
