Ask HN: Should I prepare to get laid off?
I start a new grad job in 3 weeks. The company went public 2 years ago, their stock exploded, but has since cratered. They recently announced a hiring freeze on most non-critical roles.
I’m scared. Should I start interviewing again? I haven’t interviewed/done Leetcode in 6+ months.
Are new grads easy targets for layoffs? I would say yes. However, I would say be flexible if you need to get a job outside of tech to survive do it and volunteer or try to get side gigs if you can. I worked as a janitor for a year when everything was crap. If you're in tech, you need to constantly be prepared to get laid off. Were you around during the last recession in the field?
I am just wondering your experience
