Show HN: I love FitnessSF, but I hate their mobile app
In order to enter my gym, FitnessSF, I must load up their mobile app to open a QR code and scan in.
Their app takes roughly 10,000 years to load so I stand like an idiot at the front desk, turning the app off and on again to just get the QR code.
I wrote a little bit of javascript that hits the FitnessSF API and generates a Mobile Wallet Pass. I also hard coded all the fitness SF lat/long locations, so the mobile wallet will pop up when you're nearby.
I hope this restores a little bit of sanity in someone else's life.
https://fitnesswallet.app/ This is pretty slick. I just screenshot their qr code and pull that up instead of trying to deal with their app. Since we stopped having to sign up for time slots during COVID this has functioned fine and never needed any updating. I was doing this too! But as a true millennial I had two complaints: 1. I still had to load the photo app when I approached the gym, which annoyed me. The lat/long encoded in the mobile pass just has it pop up when I'm nearby. 2. I wanted to be able to leave my phone at home and just use my apple watch. Additionally, the code never changes so you never have to update the mobile pass or visit my dumb website again. This is very useful! Thanks for building this. I found a minor bug though: the `credentials not found` error message doesn't go away after you've put in the correct credentials. Oh shoot - good catch. I'll fix it. Hope it helps! Neat! FYI you can take a screenshot of the QR code and just use that, the QR code does not change, it's just static. Yes! I was doing this for awhile, but I am extremely lazy and didn't want to dig through my photos to find the screenshot. Plus, I wanted to tag in on my apple watch. I encoded all the lat/longs of the FitnessSF locations into the Mobile Pass, so it'll just pop up on your phone when you're nearby. Saves me precious seconds :) You're right the QR code doesn't change - neither does the mobile pass! You just have to generate the mobile pass once and never visit my silly website again. whoah this is super cool! what a niche situation + project Thank you! I agree, very niche, but I figured if there's even one other person that would appreciate it, it'd be worthwhile. I'm enjoying my workaround!
