Ask HN: Talent platform for “Micro” dev contracts?

11 points by andrewheekin 4 years ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

Does a talent marketplace exist to hire engineers for one-off small dev tasks or script writing?

Think projects along the lines of... - "write a node script the connect to the Google Calendar API and return all meetings next week as a CSV" - "make a jupyter notebook to return the standard deviation of a column in a csv" - "write a script to connect to the Spotify API and save all followed artists to a plain text file"

In other words, a marketplace for things most engineers could do given the time but just want delivered faster without having to tinker at it. I know a large part of the delivery on Upwork is the follow through and iterative designs, but this would be more along the lines of one-and-done delivery.

I thought of building one a while ago. Still have the domain but never got to it :) https://experthours.com

I would like to see this. It's the kind of thing I regularly contract on Upwork, up until some bad experience with a guy who can't even deliver a simple XML layout. They're good contracts to take and outsource because they're clearly defined, and don't need communication skills and all that.

Fiverr is The marketplace for small scale one-off freelancing, not limited to software development. It has it's own problems, but I don't know anything else that fits your description better.
