Ask HN: What's the ratio of blind ideologues to detached prognosticators on HN?

Instead of trying to argue for the point, take it from a point of view of trying to be a teacher and everyone reading your post is a student.

Only ideologues are going to demand phd thesis levels of sourcing for an anonymous forum; but if you source well enough... this ratio becomes unimportant.

I don't know, but the ratio will be much higher when judged by others than with self-identification. No one considers himself an ideologue. Also, people on the right (left) are more likely to identify people on the left (right) as ideologues.

This makes me think about the importance of supporting a sports team.

If your team goes on the road against the 1st team in the division, you can contemplate both the idea of following the team on the road and make your support be felt until you don't have any voice left AND prognosticating a loss , maybe even making money by betting against your team to recoup the cost of the trip.

Both ideas can coexist in your brain at the same time.

Like people who donated millions to Hillary super-PAC , but kept channels open with the Trump campaign and when he won they were first in line to meet him at Trump Tower.

It depends. Are we discussing Rust? Microservices? Or Climate Change? Other topics attract fewer flies.

1:1, as in, every commentator is both. And we usually don't know which we are.

Issue dependent.
