Exposed by a Strava KOM: The Many Lives of a Fake Pro Cyclist
cyclingtips.comI know PBFC and the team. There was a lot of drama with the PBFC women’s team early on, so not sure how serious the issues claimed really were. From my perspective, there was a lot of inner conflict that probably helped blow things out of proportion. But with that being said, Nick Clark is an obvious fraud and scammer, so whether he sexually harassed women or not, it seems obvious he never had their best interest at heart. And he was definitely crude. He was too busy living in his own contrived fantasyland and not qualified to actually coach, so it’s a shame for young women to be introduced to cycling in that way. But the real victims are his young kids. They were elementary school age when I knew them, and his young daughter rode with the women’s team some times and was “mentored” by them. I am sure his kids wondered why all the people in their Dad’s life, who they thought were also their friends, were suddenly gone? They already lost their mother. And how can a pathological liar truly parent?
I imagine serial-liars like this are a lot more common than I realize, and they seem to be attracted to endurance sports like moths to a light, for some reason. This guys deceptions are at an entirely different level, though. It seems to be harder to pick out the parts of his life that are actually true than the lies.
