1Password 8 for iOS is now in Early Access
blog.1password.comI recently had a new install of macOS, and so decided to try the 1Password 8 Beta as opposed to 1Password 7. 8 is sorely lacking compared to 7, but that is probably due to it being beta (I hope). The Firefox extension was essentially a separate instance and did not connect to the desktop install, so I had to login again and could not use TouchID for example. Not to mention browser autofill was broken and all the shortcuts I had gotten used to changed! Although I didn’t mind the new appearance, it was very clearly not a native app and the experience unfortunately suffers for it (just one example, scrolling your list of accounts/passwords sucks and flickers).
That sounds like a bug, since my 1P8 (8.7.0-49.BETA) with Firefox 99.0.1 connects to the desktop app as expected. Be aware that you may need to go into the Settings, Browser, and check "Connect with 1Password in the browser" -- I'm not sure what the default value is for that checkbox
So far it seems great, I always thought the previous iOS interface was clunky and slow.
I’d love to see a “drag down to search” gesture like Craft rather than a whole tab dedicated to search.
1Password 8 for IOS is not a native app anymore.
Hey seaghost. The majority of the user interface is built with SwiftUI with a little UIKit, and the backend is our core written in Rust. Have you had a chance to install the app yet? If so, what makes you feel it isn't native?
It’s very sluggish and looks like a web app. I’m sorry but my first reaction was that this app followed the path of desktop apps converted to JavaScript wrapped in Electron. Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for sharing. Are there any particular tasks that are sluggish, or is it an overall feeling? What hardware are you running on?
It gets sluggish when scrolling through settings. I have an iPhone 12.
Thanks again. I haven't been able to reproduce that on my iPhone XS Max, but I have reported it to development for further investigation. We'll continue to optimize the app as we move toward a general availability release.
Thanks!
