Performative Conservatives Are Mad That DDG Wants to Downrank Disinformation
techdirt.comThis headline and article is needlessly inflammatory. It looks like the ones dropping DDG have a good point: DDG has betrayed one of its values of being unbiased. People switched away from Google because it was openly biased, now DDG is, too. Maybe I should switch away, too?
What does unbiased even mean? Certainly the goal of a search engine isn't to provide a uniformly random sampling of their index for each and every query. The results must be expected to be biased in some way.
A search engine will rank results, yes, but that's not bias. But when someone who owns or built it changes it due to their political views, that's bias.
Many of the comments on the (terrible) article are truly depressing. I'd like to think people are smarter than this, but once again I'm proven wrong.
