Ask HN: What resources would you recommend to familiarize people with web dev

I work as web developer at a startup. One of my colleagues asked if there were any resources that they could use to familiarize themselves with the lingo and the process of software development, so they can collaborate better with us.

Are there such resources? All of what I found have the goal of “teaching” the actual concepts, which can be daunting for non-tech oriented folks.

The difficult part is that development is very broad, so I doubt there are generic resources that will provide info that is actually usable.

My suggestion: They could ask the developers they are working with whenever they feel a lack of context or understanding. Asking questions will also show a genuine interest in their work, which alone can improve collaboration. I also think most developers are willing to explain things to people who take an interest, and are also very capable of explaining things in an understandable way. Just "translating" the jargon alone goes a long way.

Another approach is to actually learn some coding to "get a feel for it". For example following a codeacademy course or similar. Relatively low effort, high impact. Even if a few lessons might not learn you a lot of usable skills, it will no longer look like "magic".
