I will never work in big tech again
I'm tired of everything being political.
I'm tired of constant political emails.
I'm tired of putting my pronouns everywhere.
I'm tired of diversity training.
I'm tired of being ostracized for not believing in wokeism.
I'm tired of social justice.
I'm tired of companies saying they want diversity of thought but disallowing employees to have diversity of thought.
The worst thing I ever did was waste my time to pursue a career in this industry. It is toxic from the top to the bottom.
So, I'm done. I will never work for big tech again. The money isn't worth it. I'd rather be paid half the salary at a normal company that doesn't feel like a neo-communist enclave.
Let the downvotes and societal sanctioned harassment begin. Coinbase and Basecamp have bucked this trend and are focusing on work. Any other options? Is this "the grass is greener..."? Small(er) companies have politics, they espouse family values ("we are a family, lets rally!"), but it's only a one way street. It's still very much a business relationship, just without the big tech pay. I think you'll find that small tech has issues. Is there no way to treat working for big tech as a business transaction and compartmentalize the negatives? I'm aiming to get into big tech because I need to work, so if I'm working 8 hours a day (or so) then I might as well maximize my earnings. > Is there no way to treat working for big tech as a business transaction and compartmentalize the negatives? Maybe you can, but I can't. It's so exhausting when it's an everyday thing. Constantly in Slack. Constantly in emails. Constantly expected to believe the exact same thing and if you don't you're a racist bigot that doesn't deserve life itself. You gotta do what's right for you. Have you tried moving to a different team/org? Which big tech companies have you worked at like this? Surely it’s not a problem to name them if you’re never working there again. Or is this just ranting about hypothetical situations? Block I'm tired of putting my pronouns everywhere. Have you actually been required to use these? And if so, did you try asking to opt-out? HN is better without political rants like this. Totally - we all have too much of that. As far as the job goes: Someone will fill their shoes. Any place in particular you'd like to work next? What's your new dream industry/job? what about the pay? I've made great money working at small to mid-size corps (and some big ones) where 100% of the nonsense one must live with in FAGMAN Companies just doesn't exist. You come in do your work, have fun, and then fuck off home. Not worth it. I value my mental health too much. More than one Eastern European intellectual survived doing menial work temporarily, e.g. Milan Kundera https://www.encyclopedia.com/people/literature-and-arts/russ... I hate to say this man, but you work for Block. It's a company founded and led by the guy who made Twitter, which I consider to be one of the worst far-left cancers in this world. You are kind of getting what you pay for here... these Dorsey companies are doubtlessly some of the most authoritarian shitholes around. I'd urge this not to sour your view on tech. I work for another "big tech" and it is totally reasonable, everyone is just normal. I would encourage you to take some time off, regroup, and apply for some new companies that have as little to do with Dorsey or Social Media as possible. Pro tip - look for orgs run by foreigners, as woke cancer has not spread as badly to other countries yet. Where do you work?
