Ask HN: How do you get notifications for comments on HN?
After I make a post or leave a comment, I don’t get a notification of a response or new comments. Are there rss feeds or email notifications? This is a pretty common question and should probably be in the FAQ. If you search the archives, you can see plenty of people asking this and a few third-party sites that will notify you of comments. Last year, dang posted this: > I look at it this way: it's designed for engaged, prolonged discussion if and only if people continue to be interested enough in it to remember. If they aren't, activation energy falls below a certain threshold and attention naturally moves on to something else. That seems healthy for curious conversation, which fits the prime directive of HN (https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sor...). > What we don't do is resort to technical tricks to keep that energy buzzed up. We're optimizing for curiosity, not engagement. Thanks criddell. I checked the FAQ first and did a web search trying to find the answer, but the results were not related to HN notifications. Appreciate the pointers None from Hacker News itself. You can use http://www.hnreplies.com/ for email or https://hnrss.org/replies?id=coreyhn for RSS. And the caveat for the former is that you are linking your email with a username when you sign up for the service. It doesn't guarantee it is the same person and doesn't affect people whose username is their name and the email can be found via other means, but it can affect people trying to be more anonymous. Thank you nnhackernews only shows new comments for the tiny fraction of threads
you've read (and hides everything else). It won't notify you of your upvotes however, which is what most people
are after. Only manually refreshing
"news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=you" opens that narcissism drip.
