Ask HN: Intel to M1 migration all or only data

1 points by irmis 4 years ago · 1 comment · 1 min read

Hi,

Just got new MBP M1 and wondering what is preferred way to do migration, because all the differences between architecture.

My first thought is just use Migration Assistance and move all the data and configuration except Applications, and then install every Application I need.

Or just go all-in and do full migration then replace Intel apps with Apple silicon ones.

May I loose some data if I choose first option?

Because I am developer, most valuable data is SSH keys, certificates, Keychain data, everything else not so much.

Starting fresh I don't consider as an option because I may forget some things, and old MBP would not be around soon.

I have the same dilemma. I think I'll start fresh while keeping a copy of my old disk around to copy stuff whenever I realize I need it.
