Ask HN: How to get help for side projects?
I started Trade Blotter (tradeblotterapp.com) in 2017 after I struggled compiling risk and performance metrics across my many trading accounts. Five years later it’s still not launched.
Like many people working on side projects I’ve worked on it in fits and starts. I really want to launch it and could use some help finishing the backend, some front end and UX work and deploying. It has a Flask backend with a no-framework Bootstrap-based front end. There are some complexities with data acquisition and integrations.
How and where have people asked and received help for their side projects? Provide value to those who might help. The simplest value is money. The others are harder...what's in it for a UX designer here for example. Good luck. HN I suppose? What do you need? I've been doing Flask for about 6 years now. I could help. Priority items (I think): 1. Work through some of the business logic and wire it up to APIs/views in a way I can deploy. I have a clunky long running process that really should be a fast one I need to reason about. 2. Best way to upload, validate and insert user transaction data. I have a first pass which works ok but need another set of eyes and a cleaner UI/UX. 3. Deployment strategy. I had it all working on AWS Fargate but the run costs will be prohibitive. I want to run it on Lambdas. I would use a DO Droplet except I’m using Celery to run the long tasks async etc. Can I DM you on Twitter or something? Sure. I use the same ID everywhere. Let's talk, I have an open weekend if you want.
