"Democracy" is taught in schools in China, and actively engaged in by the students.

The school teachers select two or three candidates, and then all the students vote for which candidate they want to be the head of their class.

Choosing from a couple of authority preselected candidates has little to do with democracy.

I want to say no, but that's unfortunately the reality in many places. In my country (Nigeria), what we get every four years is the choice between one despot, albeit an educated, reasonable one, and another corrupt despot who tacks on some religious extremism on the side.

Not all democracies are equal, for various reasons. In fact, my experience here is making me to not like democracy.
