Have any notable tech figures called BS on metaverse?
So far, the whole thing sounds like a modern version of going to milliondollarhomepage.com with a VR helmet. I'm an engineer - please help me understand what I'm not getting. Carmack made a few veiled statements about lack of technical maturity for making immersive 3D environments with low interaction latency. I've been dreaming of a real cyberspace since VRML and 56k dialup was a thing. Here we are 30 years later and it's still not here, most likely because there's not yet a killer app / compelling use for it. If there were Oculus, Vive and Reverb or even Google's down market daydream would be in wide use. Instead they remain in the fun toy / expensive early adopter widget category for years. > going to milliondollarhomepage.com with a VR helmet Perfect! And in 3D it goes to 1000^3 voxels, so now billiondollarhomepage.com as well. you only need few thing to have a immersive experience in metaverse.
first i would say a super light weight VR headset is a must. next to a photorealistic environment, which thanks to unreal engine 5 we are literally there! also the most important part in my opinion is Elon Musk's neuralink.
being able to put your VR headset on, lay back on your couch and telepathically control your character's movement, is as immersive as you can get. sadly we're probably 5-10 maybe 15 years away from a solid experience.
