This article suggests that the US should issue as much 30-year debt as it can at current interest rates and to disfavor issuing short-term debt. The intent is for this move to act as an inexpensive insurance policy that will give the US some breathing room to fight inflation when it needs to fight inflation (which is really soon, according to the article).

I don't see a downside to this plan.
