Facebook unceremoniously kills off Meta brand

> On October 28, 2021, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announced the sunset of Meta, with a proposed shutdown date of March 31, 2022.
This really describes the overall mindset of humanity right now.
Discovery, learning, and advancement? Nah, f*** it. Let's build a VR dystopia.
The Church of Doritos and Porn.
For context, I came across this because I was interested in how they came to acquire the Twitter four-letter twitter handle @meta, which I wrote about here

Turns out it's harvested from the Meta company linked here that the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative acquired. Before that the @meta handle was held by an early twitter user fro. Turkey.
This is basically the unremarkable story of the "been on Twitter since 2010" profile with handle @meta.

Facebook Unceremoniously Kills Off 'Oculus' Brand (techcrunch.com)

Call me cynical but to me the optics here is that they acquired Meta under the 'cover' of philanthropy (it' a free tool so do they even have any revenue) but seem to have only been interested in the brand, which they then took away for commercial use and just closed down the company.
On the other hand, their Wikipedia page states that they have 350 employees, which is quite a large number, so they were probably (hopefully?) also interested in acquiring the pool of engineers and data scientists.
Either way, that does not look very philanthropic...
Can’t imagine a large amount of the data scientists that worked for Meta would like to work for Facebook
