An Anti-Vaccine Book Tops Amazon's Covid Search Results. Lawmakers Call Foul
npr.org> its algorithms promote hoax COVID-19 cures, including the livestock dewormer ivermectin
Am I the only one who's really sick of media outlets referring to ivermectin as a "livestock dewormer?" It's an FDA approved drug that's been used in humans world-wide for decades. Hell, the researcher who figured out it can be used in humans won a Nobel for his discoveries.
Framing it as a "livestock dewormer" is like saying, "Psychologists are using a horse euthanasia drug to treat depression!" or "My doctor gave me a rat anti-bacterial for my strep throat." It's just intellectually dishonest.
Plus, the more the media mentions "livestock dewormer", the more likely gullible fools are to go out and buy a tube from their local feedstore, which is going to be an extremely dangerous dose for humans.
Is there evidence ivermectin is useful in vivo against COVID-19? No, it's looking like one of those hundreds of drugs that's highly effective in vitro and useless in vivo. But can't we just say that, instead of creating a media circus around "livestock dewormer?"
I used to read NPR almost religiously. But lately content like this makes it harder and harder to take their articles seriously.
