Ask HN: Have you delayed laptop purchase waiting for Apple's larger M1 machines?
No, got the 13 inch M1 Macbook in May and love it. Haven't run into any of the bugs others were seeing on release. It's noticeably heavier than my 2014 Macbook Air, and I'd much rather have the extra portability and plug into an external monitor when I need extra screen. Only regret is that I didn't realize the 13 inch M1 only supports 1 external display out of the box.
No because I don’t need a new machine yet, but if I did I would probably delay. I much prefer 15-16” laptops. That extra bit of screen makes it reasonable to have two apps visible at once, while 13” doesn’t for me.
Agree. I am on a 2013 15" MB Pro that has been my horse for a long time. I hated that last generation of keyboards, which held me back. Then the promise of the M1 chip has delayed me once again. I've never really champed at the bit to spend $3k before...
I have an almost-fully-specced 2015 15” MBP for personal use and it’s still fine. For work I had a 2019 16” MBP with the newest keyboard and now I can pretend 2016-2018 MacBooks never existed and instead we went straight from 2015 to 2019 and the world makes sense. But yeah the next one I buy will probably be an M1.

Why’s that? Everything I know indicates the m1 would be the best for me (software developer, non-gamer). Did I miss something?
Curious as to why? Don't want to wait it out?
like many others, delaying until Apple stops scanning my personal data, especially on the cpu I bought and paid for.
