Ask HN: Can Oracle Linux replace CentOS?

After RedHat decided to change CentOS scope I have seen a lot of articles related to Rocky Linux and ALMA Linux but nobody talks about Oracle Linux. Can Oracle's distribution replace CentOS?

I think it depends on who is using it. Oracle have a history of changing license after they reach some critical mass of adoption. In my opinion it may be a good idea to run it past your legal department and keep an eye on their license. One might assume that Linux is GPL but the devil is in the details which Oracle sometimes tinkers with depending on included software. This may be a non issue, but a risk I would keep an eye on regardless. For personal/hobby use it probably doesn't matter.

The politics of it all notwithstanding, on a purely technical level, yes it can.
