Build on Kubernetes from Day One

what is usually the cost for running kubernetes these days at startups and companies?

Last time heard, a friend of mine used it and racked up a huge bill with a co-worker and scared the living daylights out of me.

For that complexity, I have always stuck to something like render/heroku etc instead which has a much simpler workflow.
