Ask HN: How do I successfully register a new Twitter account these days

3 points by mcnesium 4 years ago · 5 comments · 1 min read

I am trying to register a phone number on a newly created Twitter account using a German Vodafone cell phone number. I have taken multiple attempts to submit the number in the form per day, have even locked me out for 24 hours for trying to often, but I did not receive that verification code text message for a week!

The "didn't receive a code"-link just takes me back to the form to try over. The help pages do not cover that problem at all.

That newly created account is useless so far, because after login on any device/browser it immediately forwards to the phone number submit form. Questions arise about whether I am the only one who tries to register new Twitter accounts these days, because I could not find any recent clues on the webs about similar issues.

I asked @twitterSupport using another Twitter account but I have not gotten any reply so far [1]. "Here to help" my ass…

So I am here to ask whether you can point me to another way to actually reach someone at Twitter, or for any other helpful ideas. I need that account for work.

Sorry for the noise everyone, I found out how to do it:

Do not register an account only with an e-mail address of yours and then ruefully append your phone number later because you are denied any usefulness of the account otherwise.

Instead, choose to register by your phone number in the first place right away, and pretend to volunteer to be easily trackable throughout the entire internet.

I never added a phone number and thus the account got flagged immediately. Just shoot the twitter support a mail and they can unflag you.

I would, but what address should I use? I mean, I could just write to support@twitter.com or whatever, but I would be amazed if that would return anything.

They do not announce an official mail contact anywhere. Looks like they don't actually want to really get in contact with their (potential) users.

reply to my e-mail to support@twitter.com:

    > We appreciate you reaching out, but Twitter doesn’t monitor emails sent to this support address. To contact our support team, please submit a request through our online form. We also have resources and articles on our Help Center that might be able to answer your question.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry for sort of OT, but my post on Reddit has been removed, and I hope that Twitter people might read this here.
