Doing a Doing masters in Math or CS when I don't have a good GPA?

2 points by Quessy 4 years ago · 1 comment · 1 min read

I am entering my 4th year of university doing a Major in Math and minoring in CS. I came to uni to try to get a Major in CS but there was a grade cutoff and I didn't make the cut. Luckily I was able to get the Math Major and have been doing it till now. My GPA hasn't improved however, and I am sitting close to a 2.0. I will graduate but with such a GPA, is grad school even worth thinking about? I would like to do something in CS more. But Math wouldn't be bad either... Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Why not? University is hard, especially if you have a job and other responsibilities. In my humble opinion who cares if you got a 2.0, if you enjoyed it, and you think you’re up for the challenge of graduate school, do it. GPA is nowhere near an accurate assessment of a persons ability, I think often it is the luck of the draw; professors, assignments, structure, life challenges, it all has an impact. If you’d like some thing a little more pithy go with this: you are more than your GPA.

Godspeed
