This, to me, seems like it could deliver many of the actual promises of digital currencies without the bits that don't make them useful as currency. In many bitcoin threads, one pro-bitcoin argument I see people make is that it can be very helpful for people in under-banked or no-banked situations. I think that's actually a decent argument.

For a large number of digital currency enthusiasts, the "decentralization" argument has been a big seller, and obviously this is the exact opposite of that, but for those of us who don't buy into the decentralization argument but still find the tech behind digital currencies interesting, this seems like it could be a useful step forward.
