Given the news about how mining crypto is destroying the environment, was there any news similar to that when the personal computer started to be adopted in the masses? The Energy Star program (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Star) is an example of how energy usage of computers was considered in the 90s. I expect that the controversy with cryptocurrency stems from a perception that it's using a lot of power without providing much benefit to society.
