techcrunch.comHaving a crypto punk is a status symbol in the crypto world. It’s the original NFT and is pre-ERC721 standard so marketplaces integrate bespoke. They touch the right level of meme, coolness, and 8 bit style that it’s kind of a quasi-troll in that they are worth so much. I love this project.
Meh; nobody needs status. NFTs are a trap for vanity. Real cryptopunks don’t need to trade machine generated playing cards... real cipher punks write code...
In addition, I respect someone less for holding one of these, rather than buying more BTC, which is what they should be doing in order to preserve their wealth.
