I could be convinced to buy/install a cert for HTTPS, but for a static page recipe site I'm not sure why that would be helpful. Of course if I ever made user accounts or personalized pages this would be the first thing I do, but in the meantime I can't see any benefits to offset the cost and effort. I'd be happy to hear any thoughts you have about it.
Well nowadays you can get a certificate entirely for free from Let's Encrypt, but as for why, the site https://doesmysiteneedhttps.com/ covers it better than I can
