Ask HN: What are possible career paths in cybersecurity policy?

4 points by hagibborim 5 years ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

The question almost says it all: I am working towards an MSc in cybersecurity policy at Georgia Tech and will have 6 years of Devops and SRE experience once I'm done. To make sure I'm taking into all my options I figured I should ask here: what are some career paths that can combine my policy and engineering experience?

Thank you in advance!

I'd suggest you look I to the technical compliance route - PCI and HiTrust have many technical. requirements.

There are also many companies that develop technical compliance tools - ServiceNow, Archer, Vulcan, etc.

Becoming a technical auditor, QSR, pen tester, etc. might be an option.

You can also find companies that do policy related work. Companies like Free and Fair better dedicated to policy and technology for online voting.

I know of others that are in engineering and policy, but not off the top of my head for security as well
