Amazon spent almost $14M on lobbying in 2020, and employs over 100 lobbyists. It's the #1 tech lobbyist in DC. https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/clients/summary...

In short, I think it's fair to say Amazon has been very successful in securing government contracts, lobbying for advantageous policy, and willingness to cooperate on just about any privacy-busting government initiative.

I assume it's just because Amazon's e-retail share is under 50% most of the time, and their overall retail share is under 5%.
