VMware announces its intent to acquire SaltStack
saltstack.comI hope they keep the Salt Cloud stuff open, that was handy for driving on-prem hypervisors that weren't running vSphere. (Although, it gives a good reason not to buy vSphere, I guess).
What is VMware getting from this acquisition?
Also, who is going to buy Puppet?
Don’t forget ansible
Ansible was sold to RedHat few years ago.
Chef was sold for scrap earlier this month. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24407323
Puppet took $40M in debt in July. I don't think they are sellable because they had a high valuation and now a ton of debt, while the product is on a strong downward trend replaced by ansible/terraform. My guess is they get enough revenues from a few large customers to sustain a small-medium company.
I'm just guessing here, but most investors in this space are not happy with a "small-medium company" and would probably push for a sale instead.

And RedHat is now owned by IBM
