      Perhaps, but since I originally commented there's a lot more buzz about an official M$/Linux OS. Microsoft has shot itself in the foot by creating a proprietary OS with so many inane backwards-compatibility throwbacks that barely work and in many cases were only implemented to support features that themselves were removed. It's evident in the inconsistent UIs and Settings/Control Panel fragmentation. Microsoft taking advantage of all of the community support and documentation of the Linux kernel is not just a fan theory but a logical business move and comparable to OS X's new-at-the-time UNIX basis. It wouldn't be Microsoft VS Apple VS Linux in the desktop market anymore, it'd be Microsoft, Linux, and (questionable) software freedom VS Apple, UNIX, and (questionable) user-friendliness.
