Creative sabotaged the AdLib Gold 1000

When you buy the underdog, these little market timing things simply deepen the lore you love. ;-) The fact is, some of your Creative-using friends thought the Ad Lib Gold 1000 looked cooler anyway, and they probably told you as much... Personally my PAS 16 taught me that .mod files existed, and helped me learn to pay the rent with computer music. Good memories!
