Ask HN: Are many startups focusing on the wrong details?

I run a few side projects. On one, me and a co-founder are like Ying and Yang on priority.

Ying: Thinks the landing page should be just good enough to get signups and work on mobile. If the app is successful enough, it will just be re-made by a professional designer.

Yang: Wants to spend a lot of time refactoring the landing page over and over. It should be hidden from the world until it is perfect.

Ying: Wants to push that new feature, now.

Yang: Wants to add a new addition before he does.

Ying: Thinks making the app public soon is fine. User feedback is a vital part of improving the app. If people come and leave, there are still the other few billion people left in the world

Yang: Thinks that in this competitive world, only apps that are near-to perfect have any chance at getting noticed. Once a user leaves they will never come back.

Anyone else experience this type of interaction? Which mind set do you think is right for a startup?
