Ask HN: Does the current smartphone paradigm natrually lead to centralization?

Given that a smartphone uses apps, and these apps are distributed via app stores, and further these apps run in the cloud (i.e., costly data centers that tend to be ran by companies with money and resources).

Are all of these components interdependent? Basically, do smartphones lead to centralization of technology/resources (not smartphones in and of themselves, but given their current implementation)
