Ask HN: Why getting paid on the Internet is still so difficult?

5 points by erbear 9 years ago · 3 comments · 1 min read

I wanted to start selling on the Internet by myself. On my website, not on eBay, Amazon or Upwork. I know only HTML and a little bit of JavaScript. I can use some script from StackOverflow to do the job for me. I can install Google Analytics script and setup a simple static website with a domain.

Is there any easy and fast way for me to get paid? By easy I mean doable with my skills (no backend coding etc). By fast I mean I can start charging in less than 2 hours.

Just create a PayPal button and put it on your site. One button per product. You can use cart mode an PayPal will handle giving the user a shopping cart so they can buy multiple products.

What's wrong with shopify?

Also I'm sure you can do it with stripe very easily on your "own" site.

In my experience, stripe and shopify are not that easy. To use stripe you need to go through the process of making an account and its verification. Sometimes it is taking days to set it up. Shopify is a slightly better solution. But still, this is a huge application with a lot of painful processes. I need something, that offers set up in minutes, but I haven't found any solution yet.
