Using fake ransomware to stop real ransomware
We all know ransomware, right? It encrypts your files and demands money. You pay, your data is decrypted.
The only reason you would pay is if you believe there's a reasonable chance you will get your data back.
Now imagine that for every trustworthy ransomware out there, there were 10 ransomwares that take your money but don't decrypt your files.
People would just stop paying, eventually.
Could this be what is going on right now?
