Plagiarism is wrong, but Schneier's vengeful attitude is really not flattering. "should be fired and/or expelled"? Why not let their universities worry about that?
It's not as if he started a campaign to get them fired. He said that this is what in his opinion should happen to them and other who plagiarize at this level.
Completely disagree. Academics who engage in plagarism should be put in metaphorical town stocks and have metaphorical tomatoes thrown at them by everyone in their discipline. They should be named, shamed, disgraced and have their livelihoods threatened.
I would not be surprised in his attitude had not evolved in the 11 years since he wrote what he wrote. The rise of social media has changed the way many people view throw-away rhetoric on the internet.
