Ask HN: Can I safely transfer a domain when locked out of my registrar account?
I fucked up and locked myself out of my registrar account (hover.com). They need me to get a notary public to confirm my identity (which is a surprisingly nice solution, to be honest). The card they have on record is expired so the auto-renewal coming up in a few days will fail.
Now, I wonder if I could somehow save the trouble with the notary and safely request a transfer and get the domain with another registrar? I have lots of things tied to this domain (including my primary email) so losing it to someone else in the brief window of availability would be quite disastrous.
